One top WWE Superstar may be the reason behind Baron Corbin’s lack of push.

That Superstar is former WWE Champion John Cena. For a brief history lesson. Corbin cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on last week’s episode of SmackDown Live but lost in the WWE Championship match against Jinder Mahal. He then lost to John Cena during the opening match on the SummerSlam main card.

It’s well known by now that there have been several reports that suggest that there is a ton of heat on Corbin right now. Fans have picked up on Corbin having backstage heat and even chanted "You f--ked up" when he appeared during the NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III Kickoff show this past Saturday night. According to Dave Meltzer, Corbin is definitely being punished, and the way he was booked in his match with Cena was indicative of his heat.

We reported earlier on the site that WWE officials are very high on former NXT Champion Bobby Roode, who was called up to the main roster on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live. Meltzer speculated that Roode might have been brought to SmackDown Live to take Corbin's spot.

Regarding Corbin’s match at SummerSlam, when WWE uploaded a clip from the match on their YouTube channel, they only showed Cena's entrance, which of course, led to WWE fans picking up on it.

It was rumored that the WWE Superstar might have heat due to his comments he's made on Twitter, including to a military veteran, which he apologized for. Despite that, Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated has shed some light on the situation. The pro wrestling reporter appeared on Wednesday's edition of the Wrestling Inc. podcast, and during the appearance, he said there was another reason for his heat. Here is what he had to say:

"I heard the kiss of death was Cena," Barrasso said, which you can watch at the 4:30 mark of the video. "[Cena said] that Corbin wasn't ready. I can't say anymore right now, that's kind of what I'm trying to work on as we speak.

"I haven't heard about the social media," Barasso continued. "I mean, he's a heel, right? So he should play one on social media. I don't think that was the issue, but then again they kind of pick and choose who they defend in those cases, Raj. I don't know, but right now, I don't think that's [social media] the reason."

Meltzer mentioned Barasso's comments during the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter and stated that the cash-in was a late decision and that Corbin had a lot of heat with talent backstage.
