Rochdale boss Keith Hill will be without several players when his table-topping side host Macclesfield.

Skipper Gary Jones is absent with a hamstring strain but is expected to be back in contention within the next fortnight.

Forward Will Buckley remains sidelined for several weeks yet due to a combination of thigh and ankle problems.

Winger Joe Thompson picked up a knock in Tuesday's 3-0 win at Bradford and is doubtful.

He was replaced early in the second half by Kallum Higginbotham, who is now in line for his first start of the season.

Goalkeepers Kenny Arthur and Matty Edwards remain sidelined with back and wrist injuries respectively so on-loan Manchester United stopper Tom Heaton will continue between the posts.

Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander has been given a boost after Paul Morgan and Ricky Sappleton were passed fit.

Defender Morgan has recovered from illness and striker Sappleton has shrugged off a recent groin problem.

Midfielder Lee Bell sustained a knock in last weekend's goalless draw at home to Grimsby and will be assessed but striker Matthew Tipton has declared himself fit after a calf strain.

Key defender Sean Hessey has been out injured all season with a knee problem but is edging closer to full fitness and could return soon.

Alexander has backed Rochdale to last the distance in the race for promotion, but he said: "Hopefully we can go there and cause them some problems."
