There's no secret that the New York Knicks are keen to trade Carmelo Anthony and he wants to cut ties with the organisation. Melo is desperate to secure a trade to the Houston Rockets to team up with close friend Chris Paul and James Harden. The two teams have been in talks for much of the summer but have been unable to conclude a deal, with the latest reports stating that negotiations have become dormant. Despite the veteran small forward still being a part of the Knicks, they are doing everything to make it seem like he's not. Initially, the team posted a picture on Twitter to promote season ticket packages for the upcoming campaign and did not include Anthony. Instead, it featured Kristaps Porzingis, Willy Hernangomez and rookie Frank Ntilikina and included the phrase "New York Forever."

When looking to sell tickets, the obvious marketing technique is to feature the team's best players and the omission of Carmelo is telling.

If that wasn't enough of an indication that the Knicks see a future without the 10-time All-Star, president Steve Mills went a step further.

He wrote a lengthy blog on the team's website outlining his vision for the ball club but made no mention of Anthony.

"Our plan to become more youthful and athletic is underway with 22-year-old Kristaps Porzingis, the return of Tim Hardaway Jr., 25, Willy Hernangomez, 23, and with the debut of our first round draft pick, Frank Ntilikina, just 19," Mills wrote on the Madison Square Garden website.

Despite the departure of Phil Jackson, New York is still intent on trading the 32-year-old but he has a no-trade clause which makes it difficult.

Anthony is only willing to waive that to move to the Rockets but that potential deal is still not close to coming to fruition.

But Mills is intent on pressing ahead with his plans to build the franchise around a young core of players and wants to see a selfless and defensive-minded brand of basketball, traits that Melo has never been associated with throughout his career.

"We will emphasise ball movement, body movement, spacing and screening, while understanding that these changes will be a work in progress," Mills wrote. "We may not be there at first, but that's the brand of ball our players will aspire to fulfill."

With Carmelo due to report to training camp next month, it'll be interesting to see how things play out between him and members of the Knicks hierarchy going into next season.
