A stunning allegation was made against Sergio Aguero today when he was accused of hitting a steward during Manchester City’s trip to Bournemouth.

Man City players were celebrating Raheem Sterling’s 97th-minute winner with their travelling fans when police and stewards intervened in an attempt to separate the groups.

Footage of one City fan on the pitch, pinned down by a steward, has gone viral on Twitter.

In the video, which you can watch by scrolling down the page, Aguero comes along to try to help the fan. It’s here where he clashes with the steward, who has issued a statement to police claiming the Argentinian struck him.

Aguero took to Twitter to protest his innocence.

“On this story about their steward, I did not hit anyone, this allegation is false, and the tv pictures prove it,” he wrote.

Fans increasingly feel that they are being priced out of football matches but the treatment they receive at the hands of stewards is another cause for concern.

The pinned Man City fan has tweeted

The Man City fan who was pinned down by two stewards and a policeman has tweeted to say thanks to Aguero.

“This is me being pinned down on the floor - thanks for everything @aguerosergiokun - I owe you one X,” Zack Weir wrote in response to the viral footage.

Dorset Police confirmed that two male fans from Manchester were arrested following the incident, which marred Sterling’s last-gasp goal as City defeated Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

“The goal was followed by excited celebrations where a number of Manchester City supporters encroached on to the pitch,” a statement read.

“Two male spectators from Manchester were arrested as a result. No other arrests have been made in relation to this incident.

“Officers are reviewing CCTV of the pitch encroachment as part of an on-going investigation to establish whether any other offences may have been committed.”

Man City are confident that Aguero will be absolved of any wrongdoing. It’s a shame that the 29-year-old even felt the need to get involved in the incident.

Given the magnitude of the situation, it was always going to be difficult to prevent City’s fans from celebrating exuberantly.
