There have been comparisons to be made between Liverpool and Arsenal of late as the two Premier League hopefuls go head-to-head at Anfield on Sunday.

Both of the league's big guns will be considered outsiders for the title this campaign, while they both face a battle to keeper ahold of their star men.

Alexis Sanchez is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates and seems destined to leave the Gunners on a free next summer, while Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho is seeking a move to Barcelona.

It's a far from ideal situation for both Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger, who are hoping to make up ground on league leaders Manchester United when they go head to head on Merseyside.

The Reds pipped Arsenal to the final Champions League spot last season, after securing two league wins against the Gunners in two memorable fixtures last campaign.

Both sides have made record signings this summer, with Klopp bringing Mohamed Salah to Anfield while Alexandre Lacazette moved to the Emirates, and are set for another captivating encounter.

However, Klopp believes Arsenal's biggest threat could come in the form of Mesut Ozil - who is also facing the likelihood of leaving on a free transfer next summer.

Ozil, like Sanchez, has yet to agree terms on a new contract in north London, but the Liverpool boss expects his compatriot to pose a serious threat at Anfield on Sunday.

Klopp lauds Ozil's quality

"I remember the 3-3 we played against Arsenal here," Klopp said, per the Daily Mail. "Without Ozil and Olivier Giroud, we would have won 3-0.

"One long ball, Giroud gave it to Mesut and it was five players on him, no chance. He is an outstandingly skilled boy.

"I don't watch Arsenal often enough to be right to have an opinion about it. If people are not happy with him, I don't know why."

The Reds boss' comments came after Steven Gerrard branded Ozil "a liability" following Arsenal's 1-0 defeat on Monday night at Stoke.

Liverpool star dropped against Arsenal

But regardless of the Liverpool legend's assessment of the midfielder's performance at the beginning of the week, Klopp will have worked his players hard in training to try and nullify his threat.

The 50-year-old dropped first-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet ahead of the game, as Liverpool continue to show signs of insecurity at the back which Lacazette and co. will look to expose.

Neither side has started the season in a fashion which highlights a clear favourite, but it's reasonable to expect plenty of goals given their recent Premier League encounters.
