NBA coaches always have to explain their decisions on and off the court involving tactics and players to the media, but never really to anybody else.

That's why it's so awkward to watch Boston Celtics' head coach Brad Stevens trying to explain to a kid at a recent Basketball Hall of Fame event why the team traded away star play Isaiah Thomas to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Kyrie Irving.

The Celtics traded away Thomas along with Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and the rights to the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first-round draft pick to the Cavaliers in exchange for Irving last week. It's a trade that hasn't gone down that well with all Boston fans.

While most fans and the media mulls over whether or not this trade will actually be formally finalized following recent reports about Thomas' hip injury, one kid has decided to go straight to the source of the problem in Stevens to ask why he was traded in the first place.

Obviously, the kid was disappointed to see what is most likely his favourite player leave the team, so in decent fashion to his feelings, the Celtics head coach gave an answer that shows respect towards the situation.

Stevens said: “I think that’s an excellent question, and here’s what I’ll tell you is that what he did in Boston for the last two and a half years was incredible.

"I said earlier what he’s meant to me, what I think of him, how great he’s been in the locker room, what kind of teammate he’s been. And those are all really, really, really hard decisions.

“That’s the hard part about being a professional basketball coach. I’ve stared at the wall many times and thought, ‘Man, having guys in college for four years and then knowing exactly when they’re coming and going is a pretty good way of doing things.’ So that’s a tough one.”

It certainly has been one of the most craziest moves of the NBA offseason, so that was a good answer to address the situation that is still ongoing according to reports.
