Monday's episode of RAW really got fans talking as a heated promo between John Cena and Roman Reigns stole the show, while Jeff Hardy earned an Intercontinental title match and Alexa Bliss won back the RAW Women's Championship.

The episode made several big strides towards the No Mercy PPV as the Universal Champion Brock Lesnar was in attendance to further hype his title defense against Braun Strowman.

A missing monster

Two men absent from the episode however include Samoa Joe who was said to be taking on John Cena in a singles match, and the Monster Among Men himself.

Strowman was left off of the show completely and fans wondered why given that Lesnar appeared in a segment which was simply him and Paul Heyman discussing the match at No Mercy.

Strowman didn't come to confront the Beast Incarnate as he did one week earlier and the Universal title match received very little promotion on Monday night.

Discussing Strowman's omission on Tuesday's instalment of Wrestling Observer Live, Dave Meltzer claimed that Strowman was left off of the episode in order to serve WWE's plan ahead of no Mercy.

Meltzer claimed that the WWE want to make a real effort to limit the amount of physicality between Strowman and Lesnar ahead of No Mercy.

It is a tactic that the company have used several times before with Lesnar as it was seen ahead of most of his matches with Goldberg towards the end of last year.

Strowman is advertised for RAW next week but Lesnar is not which means that once again, the fans will have to go without seeing a confrontation between the two.

Both men are next advertised for the episode of RAW on the 11th of September so it will be interesting to see what the WWE do with the pair on that episode - less than two weeks ahead of No Mercy.

Second man missing

Another man notable by his absence on Monday night was Samoa Joe - who had been advertised to be facing John Cena during the show.

It emerged on Tuesday however that Joe missed the show due to an injury that he has picked up during a recent WWE Live event.

Rumours claim that the injury could keep Joe away from the ring for several weeks and that he is now likely to miss the No Mercy event.
