The highly anticipated return of the Gold Standard to WWE has finally happened as Shelton Benjamin made his in- ring return on Tuesday night.Benjamin was announced as the newest signing for Smackdown Live last week and was also unveiled as the new tag team partner to Chad Gable.
A championship pairing?
Gable is a former Smackdown Tag Team Champion and since his former American Alpha partner Jason Jordan moved to RAW, he has been in need of a new partner.

The reveal of Benjamin as his partner went down very well with fans and his debut on Tuesday's episode went even better.
Smackdown's newest tag team took on the Ascension on Tuesday night and was successful in a very impressive performance.
Gable and Benjamin highlighted their athletic ability during their first ever match and just proved to be too much for the Ascension.
While Gable and Benjamin looked impressive in their first match, there was one moment in which they didn't seem on the same page.
When Benjamin was first tagged into the match, Gable has Viktor in place for a double suplex but rather than joining his partner, Benjamin simply moved Gable aside and took things into his own hands.
They got the win though, but for the fans on Twitter, there was another more pressing issue about the Gold Standard's Smackdown Live debut.
Fans were clearly eager to hear Benjamin's old entrance theme from his previous run with the company but didn't get what they wanted when he and Gable entered together.
He may not have had his old entrance theme, but his match was classic Benjamin and the fans really responded to his positive showing in the match.
Benjamin's return has sparked fan's hopes of seeing some very athletic matches with some of Smackdown's top names.
Although one name emerged as a fan favourite to take on Benjamin.
Fans clearly want to see the Gold Standard take on the Phenomenal One AJ Styles and with both being on Smackdown Live, it is not outside the realms of possibility.
A chance on the horizon
Tuesday saw Styles begin his United States open challenge in which he defended his US title against a previously unnamed opponent.
While everyone had expected to see Baron Corbin answer the challenge, Tye Dillinger was actually the man to take on the champion.
This did however draw Corbin to ringside who wasn't happy that Dillinger answered the challenge.
With Styles hosting a weekly open challenge, Benjamin could very easily take on the US Champion in the coming weeks and give fans what they want.
