It is well known that after the mega money fight, Conor McGregor definitely gained Floyd Mayweather's respect, as the American admitted he didn't expect Notorious to go 10 rounds.

Yet, despite Mayweather being surprised at McGregor's skill level, he still believes McGregor should continue to do what he does best, and that's fight in the UFC.

Not only was Mayweather surprised, but the CEO of Mayweather Promotions was also left stunned by McGregor's ability inside the boxing ring.

"I was actually very surprised with his ability to do certain things," Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said during the post-fight press conference.

"He definitely has if he chooses to he definitely has a future in boxing, if he chooses to.

As for Mayweather, however, he was complimentary of McGregor for what he showed on Saturday night, but he still believes there's only one place for him in the future, and that's in the Octagon with the UFC.

"Conor McGregor is a hell of a fighter, and I want to see him continue to stay in the UFC and do what he does best. Because you must realise that I'm 40 years old and I've been off almost 800 days and he's active. He's actively fighting, actively training in a boxing gym and in the MMA/UFC gym.

"He's active, he's training, he's competing whereas these other fighters, these young lions, they are throwing a lot more combinations than I'm throwing.

"I was just in the pocket, shooting one shot here and there and breaking him down slowly. Whereas you got these young active guys who are throwing a lot of combinations and would get him out of there a lot earlier."

Mayweather here raises some of the doubts people had about him going into the fight, the fact that he was 40 and McGregor was in his mid 20s shows the difference in fitness and active levels.

One fight that has been speculated is McGregor vs Paulie Malignaggi, who formed a rivalry after team McGregor released tapes of their sparring session which showed McGregor knocking down Malignaggi, which he claims was illegal.

The pair also clashed in Las Vegas in the week running up to the fight, and both parties, if the money is available, will surely be interested.

Yet, for now, McGregor will have to hold off on any combat fight that he takes, as doctors have told him he must wait at least three months before his next fight as he sustained many heavy injuries in his fight against Mayweather.
