It’s looking as though it could be the most exciting transfer deadlines days ever and Liverpool are right at the centre of it.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have an interest in Virgil van Dijk, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thomas Lemar, while they’re still trying to fend off Barcelona as they attempt to sign Philippe Coutinho.

While Van Dijk will be seen as a priority by Liverpool fans as they attempt to improve their questionable defence, it seems to be a case or Lemar OR Oxlade-Chamberlain - rather than both.

Early reports suggested that the Reds had focussed their attention on Monaco’s Lemar with the Daily Mail claiming that club officials had flown out to negotiate with the French club.

However, it seems that isn’t the case.

The reason Liverpool have withdrawn Lemar interest

The latest report from the Mirror claim that Liverpool don’t have any representatives in France. Furthermore, the Merseysiders have now pulled out of a deal to sign the winger because they feel the £75 million asking price is too high.

Also, there was pressure to get the deal wrapped up on Wednesday with Lemar’s France facing Holland in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday night. Therefore, Liverpool decided there simply wasn’t enough time to get the deal done.

Focus on 'The Ox'

But as the Lemar deal looks dead in the water, Liverpool now look set to make a move for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Focus will now turn to the 24-year-old after he rejected a move to Chelsea due to his preference to join Liverpool. Oxlade-Chamberlain feared that Antonio Conte would use him as a right wing-back with him wanting to play in central midfield.

It was reported that Liverpool had a £30 million bid for the England international rejected on Wednesday morning with the Gunners wanting closer to the £40 million offered by Chelsea.

So, it seems as though it will be Oxlade-Chamberlain rather than Lemar arriving at Anfield in the coming days.

Now the small matter of securing a deal for Van Dijk and keeping hold of Coutinho.
