Fabian Delph will be staying at Manchester City after rejecting the opportunity to sign for Mark Hughes at Stoke City. The 27-year-old midfielder joined the Citizens in 2015 but has since made only 10 Premier League starts - and only two under Pep Guardiola.Capped nine times by his country, Delph was given the chance to secure first team football at a reputable Premier League club. He's reportedly earning £90,000-a-week at Manchester City and he surely would've had to take a large pay-cut to join Stoke.Delph came through the Leeds United youth academy before signing for Aston Villa in an £8m deal in 2009.He has three years remaining on his current deal at the Etihad after the Blues also spent £8m to prize him away from Aston Villa.Delph is a big fan of Guardiola but it appears the feeling is not mutual.“Every manager has their own methods, their own systems of play," said the 27-year-old England international in 2016. "But I believe we’ve got the best manager in the world here at City.“Already in the first two to three weeks I’ve been so impressed with what we’ve been doing – the different systems, the intensity of training, his man management skills – it’s been brilliant for me."

Reason for rejecting Stoke revealed

Despite making just two Premier League starts last season, Delph has decided to stay and fight for his place at the Etihad.

He's behind a long line of world class midfielders in the pecking order but that doesn't seem to bother him.

Fans on Twitter couldn't believe Delph's bizarre rejection - with many putting his decision down to his excellent pay packet at City.

Manchester City have managed to trim their vast array of midfield options ahead of Thursday's Transfer Deadline Day.

Guardiola has successfully overseen the departures of Jesus Navas, Samir Nasri, Fernando and Nolito this summer.

Delph is one player that he could not get rid of.
