You wouldn’t have got great odds on Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the first goal for Portugal against the Faroe Islands this evening.

But a profit’s a profit for those who did back the Real Madrid superstar to break the deadlock at the Estádio do Bessa in Porto.

It took Ronaldo just two minutes and eight seconds to score the opening goal against the European minnows in the 2018 World Cup qualifier - and what a sensational goal it was, too.

The 32-year-old has scored many brilliant goals during his international career, but this might just be the pick of the bunch.

Bernardo Silva picked out Ronaldo with a cross to the back post and the four-time Ballon d’Or winner did the rest, finding the back of the net with a magnificent acrobatic effort.

Make that 77 international goals.

And with that, Ronaldo has now scored as many international goals as the legendary Pele.

Ronaldo completes his hat-trick

He now has more international goals than Pele. Wow.

Portugal currently sit in second place of their World Cup qualification group, three points behind leaders Switzerland, with another three matches left to play.
