One of the biggest stories on Transfer Deadline Day has been surrounding the future of current AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar. The Frenchman is currently on international duty for his country and is in their squad for their game against the Netherlands this evening, but throughout the day, he has been linked with a move away from the French champions to either Liverpool or Arsenal. His transfer to either one of these clubs would have had a knock-on effect for other players at the club, as it could have allowed for Alexis Sanchez to move to Manchester City if he went to the Gunners, or it could have approved of Philippe Coutinho's transfer to Barcelona if he went to the Reds. Yet, a move to either Premier League club for Lemar has not materialized, and it looks pretty much certain that he will be staying at Monaco this season. The reported reason as to why he isn't going to Arsenal is because the player himself is not interested in playing for a club that is not in the Champions League this season. Since the Gunners are only in the Europa League, they, therefore, don't meet his criteria. That just leaves Liverpool, who are in the Champions League, and therefore meet the player's requirements. However, that move isn't happening either, according to Sky Sports' Guillem Balague, because the club wasn't actually interested in him in the first place.According to Balague, the Reds have not been interested in the French youngster in this summer's transfer window, and the only reason he has been linked with the football club is through stories have either been leaked or manufactured by his side.

The 21-year-old had a great campaign for Monaco last season helping them win the Ligue 1 title with nine goals and ten assists in 34 appearances for the club, but this wasn't enough to spark the interest of Liverpool since they already have a capable player at his position already in Coutinho.

For the time being then, it looks as though Lemar will be staying at Monaco at least until January, but perhaps Liverpool's interest in the player will change if Coutinho is still an unsettled player at the club.
