In the final few hours of the British transfer window on Thursday night, one player dominated a lot of the narrative.

Monaco's Thomas Lemar became the most wanted commodity in world football in what was a hectic deadline day, with Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly desperate to land the talented French winger.

The former supposedly tabled a mammoth bid of £92m for him, in a desperate attempt to find a replacement for Alexis Sanchez who was vying for his transfer to Manchester City - Pep Guardiola's side had made a £60m offer.

But, in the end, Lemar remained in Ligue 1, although, he will likely appear on English shores in the near future.

Much of the uncertainty surrounding him was due to his participation in France's World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands in Paris.

Lemar started the game and was arguably the finest player on the pitch, scoring twice in a four goal rout - his first was an absolute rocket from outside the area.

After the game, Les Bleus were in a celebratory mood and Manchester United star Paul Pogba took it upon himself to post a congratulatory Instagram with the Monaco man.

However, in typical Pogba fashion, the midfielder left a slightly cryptic message at the end, by writing 'Agent P' in the hashtags.

POGBA'S CRYPTIC POST

A nice way to troll Arsenal fans after their dismal transfer window and a horrific deadline day, which virtually dashed any hopes they had left.

So, was Pogba the man to convince Lemar not to leave for Arsenal and like he did with Romelu Lukaku, was he looking to get him to United in the future.

Nevertheless, reports suggest that the Monaco man would like to move to Anfield at some point and if Liverpool do part ways with Philippe Coutinho next summer, a switch to Merseyside seems logical for both parties.
