As the English rugby season draws near, some of the biggest stars from the Aviva Premiership have been engaging with the public, responding to mean tweets sent to them by rugby fans.

Some of the stars show off their sense of humour, and don't take themselves too seriously - scroll down to watch their reactions in the video below.

England stars James Haskell, Jamie George, Danny Care and captain Dylan Hartley all feature in a funny clip to promote the new campaign getting underway.

George, hooker for London-based club Saracens, was described in a tweet as "looking like he's just heard about Gregg's 2-4-1 on pies starting at 3pm."

Ouch. Luckily he saw the funny side and responded by saying: "Well I am happy in this picture so..."

England captain, Hartley, also received a similar cruel tweet mocking his appearance but, like George, seemed to shrug off being perceived to look "like a potato" with relative ease.

He responded: "That's fair, I probably do look like a potato."

However, some stars took their criticism slightly less well.

Danny Care was told in a tweet that he "couldn't control his own b*****ks", to which he replied sarcastically:

"I can control my own b*****ks quite well actually, they've done alright for me."

The Aviva Premiership kicks off on Friday with Gloucester taking on the champions Exeter and Worcester travelling to Newcastle.

The rest of the fixtures, featuring Saracens vs Northampton and Bath's trip Leicester are due to played out over the rest of the weekend.
