Steve Austin has opened up on his famous supermarket segment with Booker T.

To say the early 2000s was a pretty weird time for wrestling would be an understatement. We had the two biggest pro wrestling promotions going head-to-head during the hottest period in the history of the business then outta nowhere, WWE bought WCW. To be clear, WCW was WWE’s biggest competition after an all-out war in the '90s

At the time of the segment, Austin was a heel, but he would be received again as a face despite the fact that he had joined the Alliance and wrestled for them in the elimination match at Survivor Series 2001. Austin found himself back in WWF employment following the demise of WCW at the event. Then out of nowhere, he was just as quickly backed by kayfabe WWF co-owner and was pitted against WCW outcast and now Vince McMahon guy, Booker T.

The following night after Austin chased Booker T around the arena, but the five-time WCW champion sought sanctuary in a supermarket. This was when Austin found Booker, and to this day, it’s one of the most entertaining segments in WWE history.

When looking back on it, the entire WCW/ECW Invasion angle was less than well-received by wrestling fans then and now.Austin was the special guest on Sean Waltman's X-Pac 12360 this week and talked about various topics. During the interview, he was asked about the segment.

Austin stated that he and Booker T had planned out the scene ahead of time and that Booker had no issue with any of it. He noted that when the cameras started rolling, they ended up ad-libbing 95% of the segment on the fly. Austin mentioned that they did $10,000 worth of damage and that he thought that the bill was going to be more of that.

Austin also gave some praise to Tyler Breeze and Fandango for their Fashion Police segments.

“Fandango and Tyler Breeze together...and all of a sudden they put the Fashion Files out, and I am like, when I watch Raw those guys, they crack me up. I’ll rewind their s**t; I don’t know how many times.”
