Ruud van Nistelrooy was an absolute goal machine for Manchester United and will always be fondly remembered by supporters at Old Trafford. The former Netherlands international netted 150 goals in 219 appearances for the Red Devils over five seasons after joining the English giants in a £19 million move from PSV Eindhoven in 2001.Van Nistelrooy wasn’t a complete footballer by any means but he was a ruthless finisher. One of the best in Premier League history, in fact. However, during the Dutchman’s spell playing under Sir Alex Ferguson, United became too reliant on him for goals and subsequently only managed to win the Premier League title once (in 2003) while he led the line.United also won the FA Cup and League Cup with Van Nistelrooy as the team’s talisman, but they became a more successful side once Ferguson sold the centre-forward to Real Madrid in 2006 and made Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo the focal points in attack.Nevertheless, United fans will always appreciate what Van Nistelrooy did for the club and how much joy he brought them over those five years.
