Even though they’d managed to keep Alexis Sanchez, most Arsenal fans were left feeling despondent after transfer deadline day last week.Alexis didn’t want to be at the club and Arsenal supporters had come around to the idea that selling the Chile international might be best for all concerned. After all, he will only leave on a free transfer next summer and there was no longer the guarantee that he would continue putting 100 per cent effort in for the Gunners.Replacing the want-away South American with Thomas Lemar suddenly felt like a real possibility when Arsenal submitted a shock £92 million bid for the French midfielder hours before the transfer window closed. However, the deal failed to materialise and Arsene Wenger subsequently blocked Sanchez’s move to the Etihad Stadium.Lemar, it was reported at the time, didn’t want to sign for Arsenal for two reasons. He apparently preferred a move to Liverpool, who were also keen but were more intent on keeping Philippe Coutinho at Anfield, and wanted to play Champions League football. Arsenal find themselves competing in the Europa League this season after finishing last season fifth in the Premier League table.Lemar rejected Arsenal and then went out and scored two goals for France against the Netherlands later that night, resulting in some very amusing posts on Twitter.

Wenger reveals new information regarding Lemar

However, Wenger has new some surprise information while speaking on Telefoot today - and it will excite Arsenal fans.

"We will come back for him,” the veteran French coach admitted, per Goal’s Arsenal correspondent Chris Wheatley.

Wenger also confirmed that reports of the €100 million bid for Lemar were correct.

“Yes, we bid 100m euros for Lemar,” Wenger said, per French football journalist Matt Spiro. “Yes, we'll come back in for him.”

Very interesting.

However, Wenger must surely be concerned that Lemar will be worth even more money in January or next summer if he continues shining for Monaco and the French national team.
