Jose Mourinho has identified the world-class player he wants to sign for Man United next summer

Swansea City v Manchester United - Premier League

Even since Jose Mourinho was appointed Manchester United boss, it has been clear that he is determined to overhaul the squad.

Louis van Gaal left him with a roster of fairly average players and in the last 12 months, the Portuguese coach has improved near enough every department.

This summer, he wasted no time in bringing in three stellar acquisitions, with Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof all arriving at Old Trafford.

Now, United look like the force they once were under the great Sir Alex Ferguson, a powerful, skilful side that look capable of giving any team in Europe a game.

So far in the Premier League, the Red Devils have looked virtually unstoppable, winning their first three games, scoring 10 goals and conceding zero.

Nevertheless, Mourinho is not one to take the edge off and it is clear he is already planning ahead till next summer.

In fact, it appears he has already identified his number one target in 2018.

The likes of Ivan Perisic and Antoine Griezmann have been linked with a switch to Manchester, but it is one other superstar that Mourinho so desperately wants; Real Madrid's Gareth Bale.

According to The Sun, Mourinho will go back in for the Welsh wizard after failing to lure him to Old Trafford this summer and is prepared to do whatever it takes to get the deal done.

The former Tottenham man will command a fee of at least £90m but given United's wealth, the price should be of no issue.

Bale's future at Real Madrid appears to be in decline, particularly given the rise of Spanish duo Marco Asensio and Isco.

Zinedine Zidane is a big fan of the player but he may choose to let the injury-prone star go as he only managed 17 starts in 2016/17.

Bale would be the perfect solution to Mourinho's need for a world-class winger.

Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata have all deputised well out wide, but the addition of Bale would really galvanise United's flanks.

With the returning Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini all deadly in the air, the Welshman would have a field day with his outstanding crossing ability.

Mourinho is just one player away from a side that could compete for the Premier League and Champions League and that man is Bale.
