Manchester United today announced their 25 man squad for the upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign.Supposedly not fit until January, the inclusion of 35-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic wasn't even the biggest surprise. The Swedish forward suffered a serious knee injury in April but was recently re-signed on a much lower salary after his one-year contract expired.Able to make modifications to the Champions League squad in January, Mourinho recently suggested that Ibrahimovic won't play until 2018. The inclusion of the enigmatic striker suggests otherwise."He will not be ready for the group phase of the Champions League," said Mourinho in August. "I don't think there will be any chance of that."Asked when Zlatan could realistically return, Mourinho replied: "I don't want to think about it. I don't even ask, I don't speak with him about it, I don't speak with the medical team about it. I just think he will be an extra man for us in the second part of the season."When I say second part of the season, normally we say January, after Christmas, when the transfer window re-opens in January. But I have no idea at all and I think the right way is not even to think about it and just let him do his work, step by step and come back when he's really ready."

Manchester United's big surprise inclusion

Marcus Rashford was not in the 25 man squad which caused some ill-informed Manchester United fans to worry.

U21 players do not need to be included but there was one name on the list which raised many eyebrows amongst fans on Twitter.

James Wilson, once touted as a future Old Trafford legend, was placed alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku.

The 21-year-old striker scored a brace on his Manchester United debut in 2014 but has failed to live up to the hype thus far.

Mourinho appears prepared to give Wilson a final chance at Old Trafford following unsuccessful loan spells at Brighton and Derby.

He only made four Championship appearances at Derby last season, returning to Manchester in October after suffering a serious knee injury.

Wilson has been given a new shirt number: 29.
