John Cena and Roman Reigns are finally set to go head-to-head later this month.
As "The Leader Of The Cenation" begins to wind down in his career, former Shield frontman Roman Reigns seems to be emerging as the guy to take over Cena's top spot on the WWE mountain. Reigns has been groomed for the past few years to eventually go on and defeat Brock Lesnar in order to become the next WWE Universal Champion and reign as the top guy in WWE. He'll get his chance to dethrone Cena from that spot at the No Mercy pay-per-view (PPV) later this month (Sun. September 24, 2017) from the Staples Center in Las Angeles, California.
For the past few weeks Reigns and Cena have been cutting promos on one another on Monday Night RAW to hype their match-up, and Cena's veteranship continues to shine through when the pair go toe-to-toe on the mic.
Recently, WWE Hall Of Famer Edge took to he and former Tag Team Championship partner Christian's podcast, E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness, and commented on the rivalry between Reigns and Cena. Edge revealed what he thinks is wrong with the build-up to Cena vs. Reigns as of the past few weeks, and here's what he had to see (quotes via IWNerd):
“So here’s where I’ve got to start: why No Mercy? Why? There [has] got to be something going on there. You don’t do this at [No Mercy].
"That’s a WrestleMania match! Back to my Brock Lesnar/Samoa Joe. Imagine you put Brock Lesnar/Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns/John Cena on WrestleMania. Sold. Hold on!
"I’m great-balls-of-fired-up about it, man! You put it on Great Balls Of Fire and you put it on No Mercy. Come on! Like, what?
“They each have all kinds of opponents. You didn’t have to [book the match now]. That’s all I’m saying, man.
"There [are] loads of people that you could’ve got through and started those around Royal Rumble season and nobody would’ve touched each other and you have two fresh matches that haven’t happened that people want to see and want to talk about. That’s my take on that.
“Again, it’s WrestleMania. I don’t know why it’s happening at No Mercy. There [has] got to be something scheduling-wise as to why it’s not. Otherwise, ‘WTF,’ as the kids say these days, Bird, WTF.”
