The situation surrounding Carmelo Anthony and a possible trade from the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets has stalled lately, and it remains the biggest unsolved story this NBA offseason.

At the moment, Anthony will be a member of the Knicks by the start of the new NBA season next month as he is yet to waive the no-trade clause in his contract. It has been reported that the only team he will waive his no-trade clause for is the Rockets.

The two teams have been in talks with one another for much of the summer but have been unable to come to an agreement, and according to ESPN, that trend looks set to continue.

ESPN's Ian Begley is reporting that as of last week, the Knicks were "not close" on any trade involving Carmelo Anthony.

According to the report, the Knicks have been telling people around the league recently that Houston simply doesn't have anything that appeals to them, meaning a third team is probably going to have to be involved in order to make the trade happen.

The ESPN report states that the Milwaukee Bucks emerged as a potential third team to get involved in the deal at one point, with Jabari Parker's name being discussed, however, there was no traction toward a deal.

They weren't ready to take on Ryan Anderson's deal which is valued at about $60 million over the next three years, but they would have offloaded the sizable contract of either John Henson or Greg Monroe.

For the time being then, it looks as though Anthony will begin the 2017-18 season in New York, which is something Knicks fans will be happy with, but maybe not the player himself, as he wants to win a championship before retirement.

That isn't going to happen in New York anytime soon, and time is running out for him.
