Marshawn Lynch is back in the National Football League (NFL), and football fans couldn't be happier for it.
Bred and raised in Oakland, California, Lynch was a four star recruit right out of high school and would eventually go on to play college ball for The University Of California, Berkley. During his time there, he was given the nickname "Money" after a teammate said every time he was handed the ball it was just like "Money." He played three years for the University, not getting the starting nod until his sophomore year. Lynch was a massive standout in his first year as a starter, racking up 196 carries for 1,246 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He followed that up with a stellar junior year as he rushed for 1,356 yards off 223 carries, racking up 11 touchdowns. In early 2007 Lynch announce that he would be foregoing his senior year and would declare for the NFL Draft.
Lynch was drafted by the Buffalo Bills with the 12th pick in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He had quite the rookie season with 1,115 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. He remained with the Bills for three more years where he formed quite the running back duo with Fred Jackson.
In the beginning of the 2010 season Lynch started three games for the Bills before being traded to the Seahawks for a 2011 and 2012 NFL Draft Pick. Lynch remained in Seattle for six great seasons, solidifying himself as one of the best backs in the league. His stint with the Seahawks saw him make it to SuperBowl XLVII where they thrashed Peyton Manning and the Broncos for a championship win.
The following season Lynch and the Hawks made it to the SuperBowl for a second consecutive year. Despite having a significantly better performance in the SuperBowl than last year, rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown, the Hawks came up just short and lost out to the New England Patriots.
The Hawks had the opportunity to win the game at the goal-line, as all they seemingly needed to do was hand off the ball to Lynch, one of the most powerful running backs in the game at the time. Despite this, the Seahawks decided to run a play-action pass and quarterback Russel Wilson threw an interception, all but wrapping the game up for the Patriots.
Lynch had initially made the decision to retire, however, he was talked out of that just a year later by the Oakland Raiders and is now expected to make his return to the gridiron for his hometown team this season. He recently did an interview with comedian Johnno Wilson in the debut episode of Draft Kings' new series, "The Assist."
The star running back was asked about his thoughts on not getting the nod at the goal-line in the biggest game of the season, but actually claimed he was relieved he didn't get the ball handed to him. You can check out the interview here:
