Liverpool may have staved off the interest from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho this summer but that doesn’t mean everything will go back to normal as far as the Brazilian is concerned.
Reports from Spain suggest the midfielder will refuse to play for Liverpool in the Champions League and he’ll attempt to force through a move to Barca in January. While other reports suggest that Coutinho is devastated that Liverpool prevented his dream move, despite him handing in a transfer request.
Until Coutinho returns from international duty, we don’t really know what will happen between him and Jurgen Klopp.
Will the German bring him straight back into the side immediately?
And if he does, will Coutinho have his heart and head on Merseyside or will he still be thinking about moving to Barcelona?
It’s all speculation until Coutinho breaks his silence and starts playing for Liverpool once again.
While we await a comment from Coutinho, the next best thing is someone that knows Coutinho very well - compatriot Ronaldinho.
Ronaldinho on the Coutinho situation
The legendary superstar reveals what he thinks will happen when the 25-year-old returns to Liverpool after playing for Brazil against Colombia on Tuesday night.
“This season they will see him give everything for the club - that is the sort of player he is,” Ronaldinho told the Mirror.
"Also no player is going to refuse to play when it’s the World Cup at the end of the season.
“The Liverpool fans have nothing to worry about - I do not believe any of the stories about him refusing to play for the club. I know him that is not his way.”
Liverpool will absolutely love those comments from Ronaldinho and will be praying it comes true.
Meanwhile, Klopp has already hinted that Coutinho will soon return to the fold at Anfield.
“We have our situation and Dortmund has another,” the Liverpool boss told German media outlet SPORT1, when asked about Barcelona’s failed pursuit of Coutinho.
“Don’t believe everything in the press or that there are offers here and there and that the minute after the offer has been entered, it should already be over.
“We are not like George Orwell where everybody knows everything immediately.
“We have exactly the situation we wanted and no other.
“Dortmund decided the player [Dembele] would leave them, so I cannot compare the two situations.
“We still have a really good player in the squad who can play.”
Liverpool fans will just hope Ronaldinho is right and Coutinho will “give everything for the club” this season.
