Football News

Mohamed Salah has enjoyed an excellent start to his Liverpool career following his £34 million transfer from AS Roma in June.

The Egypt international netted three goals in five Premier League and Champions League appearances in August and subsequently picked up the club’s Player of the Month award on Tuesday.

Salah received over 50 per cent of the votes cast by supporters on Liverpool’s official website, beating Sadio Mane (20 per cent) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (16 per cent).

Roma reacted to the news with a very classy tweet.

“👋Congratulations @22mosalah on winning #LFC August Player of the Month,” Roma tweeted, “and congratulations on winning it next month and in Oct, Nov & Dec 😂“

Salah endured an unhappy spell at Chelsea

Considering how well he’s started at Anfield - and how impressive he was in Serie A with Roma - Chelsea fans could be forgiven for wondering if their club did enough to bring the best out of the 25-year-old winger.

The Blues paid FC Basel £11 million for Salah in January 2014, but joining a new club midway through a season is always tricky - particularly for a young player from another country.

Salah failed to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge and was eventually loaned to Fiorentina during the second half of the 2014-15 campaign by Jose Mourinho.

He then moved to Roma on loan the following season and, despite making a big impact at the Stadio Olimpico, was offloaded permanently by Chelsea last summer.
