The live gate total for the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor was considerably lower than between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, it has been revealed.

Reported by Jed I. Goodman, via the Nevada Athletic Commission, the gross gate was $55.4million in total for the historic fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

This figure is considerably lower than the approximate £72.2million raked in by Mayweather and Pacquiao back in 2015.

It is quite a stark comparison considering most were predicting the fight to break most, if not all, gate records for boxing events.

Even Mayweather himself insisted post-fight that the total value had eclipsed over $80million.

Nonetheless, it seems that the extortionately high ticket prices did little to convince supporters. There were also reportedly empty seats for the highly-anticipated fight.

Despite the figure being lower than predicted, the gate amounts were still the second-highest of all time. As a matter of fact, the fight itself more than tripled the best live gate in UFC history; Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez back in November 2016, in which the Irishman earned a second round technical knock-out.

It also means that Floyd Mayweather holds the record for the top-four highest live gate numbers in the history of Nevada boxing events.

Supporters in Las Vegas still got value for money despite the live gates not breaking the record.

The fight lasted for an astonishing 10 rounds, with McGregor putting in a thoroughly professional performance in his first-ever boxing match, looking good value for his lead in the early stages.

Mayweather, though, tired his opponent in the later rounds and begun to take control. As the 40-year-old's experience showed in the 10th round, the referee had to stop the fight calling a technical knock-out.

Mayweather maintained his incredible individual boxing record, eventually finishing his career with an outstanding 50-0 record.
