The Memphis Grizzlies will have a slightly different look next season after losing two veteran stalwarts from their roster this summer.

Franchise legend Zach Randolph opted to join his former coach Dave Joerger at the Sacramento Kings and Tony Allen was not given an extension and remains a free agent.

The duo epitomised the team's grit and grind style of basketball and it could lead to them changing their identity next year.

The Grizzlies brought in Tyreke Evans and Ben McLemore in free agency and are close to finalising a two-year deal with JaMychal Green which will give them a slightly younger presence.

But Marc Gasol and Mike Conley still remain as the faces of the franchise after they committed their futures to the team with long-term contract extensions in the last two years.

The level of competition in the Western Conference has increased significantly this summer and it has led to question marks over both Gasol and Conley and whether they would see out their contracts in Memphis or seek pastures new.

Gasol was quoted in the Spanish media earlier in the offseason saying he would have to "revisit things" with the organisation if they don't continue to grow which caused quite a stir.

The Boston Celtics are believed to be huge admirers of the Spaniard and have held a long-standing interest in the big man.

However, according to Matt Moore of CBS Sports, the Grizzlies want to send out a clear message to teams interested in acquiring the center or point guard Conley.

Moore said: "The Memphis Grizzlies consider All-Star center Marc Gasol “untouchable” and have refused to enter his name in any trade conversations, two sources close to the situation told CBS Sports this week.

"Typically, the idea that Gasol could be available stems from the perception that Memphis has lost momentum and "needs" a rebuild. The Grizzlies, in reality, have made the playoffs the past seven years, and their decision to re-sign both Gasol and Mike Conley (who is also considered "untouchable" according to sources) was made with the intention of building around the duo long-term."

Conley signed a huge five-year, $153 million contract in 2016 and is likely to remain in Memphis for the foreseeable future.

But in Gasol's case, he can opt out of his deal in 2019 and become a free agent and if he informs the organisation of his intention to do that, they could potentially be more open to trading him next summer.

But Grizz fans will be happy to know that the pair will definitely be taking to the court at FedEx Forum next season and they're still likely to be competitive with talented young coach David Fizdale at the helm.
