Reading chairman Sir John Madejski insists the club are in no rush to appoint a new manager.

Madejski says the mood is "sombre" at the club following the departure of manager Brendan Rodgers earlier in the week but insists the Royals are in safe hands under the staff that have been place in temporary control of first-team affairs.

"We've appointed Brian McDermott to take over the first team and we've got Nick Hammond as director of football. We have a wealth of staff here. We're not going to make any rash decisions about anything," he told BBC Berkshire.
