The Coca-Cola League Two programme was wrecked by the weather with Rochdale's 4-0 victory at home to Shrewsbury the only match to go ahead.
Dale extended their lead to seven points at the top as Keith Hill's side took full advantage of their rivals' enforced rest with a stylish display to record their sixth successive victory.
The hosts were ahead eight minutes in when Tom Kennedy's corner to the near post was flicked on by Joe Thompson and Craig Dawson muscled his way through a packed six-yard area to blast the ball past David Button from close range.
Chris O'Grady doubled the advantage after 38 minutes, collecting Chris Dagnall's cut back and volleying into the corner of Button's goal from the edge of the box.
Thompson tested Button with a low drive from 25 yards while Jamie Devitt had Shrewsbury's only effort of note in the opening 45 minutes with a long-range attempt that flew inches over Tom Heaton's crossbar.
Dawson headed his second goal eight minutes into the second half, powering home another Kennedy corner to all but wrap up the result.
O'Grady added his second from close range in the 67th minute.
