Phillips offered permanent Crewe deal

Crewe have offered a permanent contract to goalkeeper Steve Phillips.

The 31-year-old Bristol Rovers stopper's loan agreement expires on January 3 and he has impressed during his spell at Gresty Road enough to be offered a longer deal.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi told the club's official website: "We would like to keep him with us and I have made him an offer which I think he finds acceptable for this division. We had positive talks and hopefully, if he can sort out one or two things with Bristol Rovers then he will be pleased to sign with us."

He added: "He is being paid more at Bristol than he is here so he will look to resolve things and try to make up the difference.

"I think it is good that an experienced player wants to come here. It is good for the younger lads to know that this is a decent club because they are none-the-wiser."
