Ruthless United hammer Wigan

Wayne Rooney led a five-star performance from Manchester United who closed the gap on Premier League leaders Chelsea to two points with a comfortable 5-0 win over Wigan.

There was never any doubt over the result once Rooney had steered home Antonio Valencia's cross to score his 15th goal of the season.

Valencia had quite a night against his former club, creating United's second for Michael Carrick and fourth for Dimitar Berbatov either side of a Rafael Da Silva effort before wrapping up the scoring himself.
