Floyd Mayweather may be done with boxing, however, that hasn't stopped the undefeated legend from talking about potential match-ups with the stars of the sport today.
Currently two of the biggest stars in boxing are none other than Mexican mega-star Canelo Alvarez and undefeated knockout artist Gennady Golovkin. Golovkin has had a tremendously successful career as a WBA, WBC, IBO, and IBF World Champion and has gone 37 straight fights with a victory with 33 of those wins being scored via knockout.
His last outing saw him go head-to-head with Canelo Alvarez inside the ring, and although it seemed as though he dominated the Mexican, the judges issued a controversial Majority Draw decision.
The 35-year-old has been solidified as one of the most dominant champions the sport has ever seen, but in several recent interviews, "Money" claims that if he ever got the chance to fight Golovkin he'd consider the knockout artist 'easy work.'
Prior to the fight between Alvarez and Golovkin, Mayweather was picking Canelo heavily to win by knockout and downplayed Golovkin's elite boxing ability and referred to him as more of a robotic type of fighter. As one would expect, the Golovkin camp does not share those same sentiments.
GGG's manager, Tom Loeffler, recently spoke to Boxing Scene to discuss a variety of topics, and Mayweather's comments were brought up. Loeffler stated that if Golovkin and Mayweather were to ever fight, his fighter would finish "Money" for the first time in his career - and he claims Mayweather knows so too (quotes via Boxing Scene):
"There were never serious talks. We can't blame Floyd because he was never in the [middleweight] division. If he was in the division it would be a different story but he's never fought at 160 pounds," Loeffler told Sky Sports.
"Floyd said it would be 'easy work' because GGG has 'no special effects' but realistically they know what the outcome would have been."
What are your thoughts on Golovkin's manager saying that Mayweather knows he can't beat GGG if they met inside the squared circle? Do you agree with him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
