Justin Thomas, who finished runner-up at the recently concluded Tour Championship, was left feeling upset despite bagging a staggering $10 million for winning the Fed-Ex Cup outright.

The US PGA winner was bested on the final hole of the championship by rookie Xander Schauffele, who came home in one shot less than Thomas after holing for a birdie on the final hole in Atlanta.

To go with his $10 million, Thomas also pocketed $945,000 for finishing runner-up at the Tour Championship, but admitted that he wanted to win, and his competitive nature was the reason he was left feeling upset with second place.

“I wasn’t mad, but my competitive nature, I mean I was upset,” he said

“I felt like I had a great chance to win the tournament and I didn’t. I wanted to win six times this year.”

Once Thomas has had time to sit back and assess his year as a whole, however, it is almost certain he will look past his second-place finish in Atlanta and realise what an incredible year it has been.

He fell one tournament short of matching the tally set by Tiger Woods in his prime, who won six tournaments in a year.

At just 24, Thomas easily clinched the final Major of the year and was miles ahead on the Fed-Ex standings when he signed his final card at the weekend.

The future is more than a bright for one of the greatest talents to emerge in recent times. While so much attention has been placed on the rise of Jordan Spieth, Thomas has soared past him in 2017 and will undoubtedly be the man to watch in the 2018 season.

Meanwhile, Xander Schauffele became the first rookie to win the Tour Championship in a break-out year that also saw the 23-year-old finish in fifth place at the 2017 US Open.

"It's been a wild ride," said the rookie of his remarkable 2017.
