The Shield is one of the most successful trios in the history of professional wrestling, and a reunion could be right around the corner.
Former NXT stars Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose made up the group and made their main roster debut at the 2012 Survivor Series pay-per-view (PPV) to assist then-WWE Champion CM Punk in defending his title against Ryback and John Cena in their Triple Threat Match. The Shield put Ryback through an announce table with a Triple Powerbomb, allowing Punk to pin Cena and pick up the win.
It was later revealed that Punk's manager, Paul Heyman, had hired The Shield to assist "The Cult Of Personality" inside the ring. The trio would then go on to dominate Six Man Tag Team competition, going undefeated for quite some time before being handed their first loss against Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan and Kane) and John Cena.
The minor setback didn't stop The Shield's success, however, as all three men would eventually hold WWE gold at the same time. Reigns and Rollins reigned as WWE Tag Team Champion while Ambrose captured the United States Championship.
After all three men lost their respective titles, The Shield engaged in a rivalry with the reunited Evolution faction (Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista). Following an epic Six Man Tag Team Elimination match win over Evolution at the Payback PPV, The Shield split up the following night on Monday Night RAW when Rollins betrayed Ambrose and Reigns by attacking them with a steel chair.
Rollins would instead join The Authority in order to serve as their golden boy en-route to winning a World Championship. Since the split all three men have won a World Championship and are considered three of the biggest stars in the company today.
Ambrose and Rollins have since reconciled their differences and reign as RAW Tag Team Champions. Reigns is being groomed to be the next big face of WWE and is primed to dethrone Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania next year.
As we previously reported, it is believed that a full Shield reunion is in the works for next month's Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) PPV in order to boost ticket sales. This past Monday's episode of RAW suggested that was indeed the case, and The Shield could be feuding with The Miz and the Mistourage.
Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez speculated that Braun Strowman could get in the mix as well, and perhaps "The Monster Among Men" could align himself with The Miz in order to take on The Shield.
What are your thoughts on The Shield possibly reuniting to go up against Strowman and The Miz alongside another heel character? Is this something you're interested in? Are there better alternatives to who The Shield could face instead? Have YOUR say in the comments section below, and the fourth episode of GiveMeSport’s WWE podcast is here!
