Oh, how things have changed for Cesaro.

Before he signed with WWE, Cesaro was previously known for his work in Ring of Honor (ROH), Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) and Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), and the Japan-based Pro Wrestling Noah.

He was a two-time ROH World Tag Team Champion with his partner Chris Hero as The Kings of Wrestling three-time WWE Tag Team Champion with his partner Tyson Kidd as part of their team and his reigns with Sheamus as the Raw Tag Team Champions. In September 2011, he signed a contract with WWE and began working in its developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW).

The Superstar made his WWE television debut on the April 20, 2012 episode of SmackDown by appearing in a backstage segment with Aksana and Theodore Long. Cesaro has also had success as a singles wrestler, having won the WWE's United States Championship and the inaugural André the Giant Memorial Trophy at WrestleMania 30 along with numerous independent singles titles, such as the PWG World Championship.

WWE had the following written in Cesaro’s bio on WWE.com in May of 2012:

“Ask Antonio Cesaro where he hails from, and you won't be hearing "parts unknown." The Swiss-born Superstar is unabashedly proud of his roots, and is quick to remind allies and foes alike of his Lucerne hometown.

Walking the walk, Cesaro backed up his patriotism by serving in Switzerland's famed militia before embarking on an athletic career. After excelling on several European rugby teams, Cesaro was banned from the league due to excessive aggression, and decided to apply his mercilessness in the ring. Honing his skills not just in Europe but around the entire world, Cesaro landed in the United States and developed a cult following exhibiting his vicious skills in tag team and singles competition alike.

But this brutally innovative grappler from the "Land of the Alps" is not all brawn. As versatile as a Swiss Army knife, the cultured Cesaro speaks five languages, allowing him to adapt to his surroundings while traveling the globe en route to WWE. When not European Uppercutting his way through his opponents, he appreciates the finer things in life.

Truly in a class unto himself, Cesaro has the SmackDown roster on high alert now that he is competing on Friday nights. Very talented. Very bright. "Very European!"
