Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is reportedly set to miss 6-8 weeks after suffering a fractured rib late on Thursday night. The 29-year-old was involved in a car crash in Amsterdam after attending a concert by Colombian singer Maluma.Aguero is the Premier League's joint top goalscorer with six goals, netting five in his last three league outings. If the ESPN reports are true, Aguero will definitely miss Manchester City's top of the table clash with Chelsea as well as Argentina's crucial upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The former Atletico Madrid star is one goal shy of Eric Brook's club-record 177 goals but Aguero's celebrations appear to be on hold following the incident in Amsterdam.“I hope as soon as possible he can achieve that record so at least we cannot talk about that," Pep Guardiola told reporters on Monday. "I am pretty sure that in the next game it is going to happen.”“Last game again he scored a goal and had two or three chances more so that is essential for a striker that you have (chances)."

Aguero's unfortunate injury comes less than 24 hours after Guardiola learnt of Benjamin Mendy's ruptured ACL.

The 23-year-old French full-back - who made an excellent start to life at the Etihad - is unlikely to feature again this season.

Aguero posted a photo alongside Maluma on Instagram on Monday night, thanking the singer for the invitation.

News of Aguero's injury will come as a major blow to Manchester City's title hopes.

The Citizens lead Manchester United at the top of the table on goal difference but plenty of pressure will move onto the shoulders of 20-year-old Gabriel Jesus.

Signed in January, the young Brazilian excelled during Aguero's injury absence earlier in 2017 and Guardiola will be hoping for more of the same.

City fans react on Twitter

Manchester City fans on Twitter couldn't believe their star striker was in Amsterdam less than 48 hours before a big match.

The early social media reaction involved City fans all saying the same thing.

One Manchester City fan stood up for Aguero but the Argentine forward may be well advised to stay off social media for a little while.
