Portsmouth's players have finally received December's salary, the club have confirmed.

The Barclays Premier League club obtained funds on Thursday morning and paid the cash straight into the players' bank accounts.

A Portsmouth spokesperson confirmed to Press Association Sport: "We are pleased to say the players have now been paid."

The confirmation followed chief executive Peter Storrie's pledge, earlier on Thursday, that the issue was on the brink of being resolved.

Storrie had earlier told Sky Sports News: "As far as I am aware everything is going through to their accounts.

"Payment should be there, I am pleased to say. Obviously it is not the best scenario in the world to have this situation happening but obviously finance is a major problem in world market at the moment.

"The owners are trying everything they can and they have obviously managed to find this in the last couple of days.

"I am told funds were received (on Thursday morning) so therefore it's a question of the process and however long that takes to go through but I'm told it should all happen."

Storrie also insisted players would not be sold on the cheap in order to help ease their financial crisis.

Storrie added: "I've had one or two calls and I think one or two people think there is some sort of fire sale going on. That is not the case. If we have to sell players we'll sell them for their market price and not what people think is a knock down price."
