Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette looked sharp once again as the Gunners moved up to 5th with a 2-0 victory over Brighton.

The 26-year-old Frenchman struck the post in the opening minutes with a stunning long-range effort but failed to find the back of the net for the first time at the Emirates.

Nacho Monreal and Alex Iwobi scored in each half to maintain Arsenal's excellent form since the international break.

Arsene Wenger's side have bounced back in some style since humiliating defeats at Stoke and Liverpool in August.

“We realised what we produced was not good enough,” Wenger said about the 4-0 loss at Anfield.

“But that was a special day for us as well. It was just before the transfer window closed, and just before an international break. Overall, we stayed united and responded on the pitch. That is all you can do.”

Lacazette subbed off yet again

The new club record signing has settled in effortlessly but fans are rather bemused by Wenger's insistence on substituting him during the second half.

Lacazette has made eight appearances since joining from Lyon but has not completed 90 minutes since the opening day of the season 4-3 win over Leicester City.

Despite looking lively, the £52m (€60m) man was replaced by compatriot Olivier Giroud in the 71st minute.

One popular Arsenal fan on social media, Mike Sanz, shared his outlandish theory on why Wenger refuses to leave Lacazette on for the full 90.

An official Lyon statement revealed there was €7m worth of potential add-ons to be paid by Arsenal following the €53m payment.

“Olympique Lyonnais has agreed to transfer its international striker Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal for a maximum of €60 million, including €7 million in incentives.”

The crying emoji suggests he wasn't being completely serious but it is one answer as to why the new star man is constantly being hauled off.

There have been instances like this in the past with players being overlooked because of a clause in their contract.
