Alexandre Lacazette has some seriously big boots to fill as the main striker at Arsenal.

The Frenchman has got off to a respectable start as a Gunner with four goals in his first seven competitive outings.

But for a club-record signing, it’s probably the least many of the Arsenal faithful expected from the marquee summer acquisition.

Lacazette found the net 133 times during his last four seasons at Lyon to establish himself as one of the most sought-after goalscorers in Europe.

Considering those numbers, Arsenal certainly got themselves a handy deal at £53 million.

However, in years gone by, the Premier League has made countless deadly strikers from abroad look less than average on British soil.

Lacazette is well suited to the English game in many respects, though, with his blistering pace, clever movement and composure in front of goal.

The 26-year-old could well be a future Arsenal legend if things go his way, but there’s a long road ahead before he’s worthy of being compared to Thierry Henry or Ian Wright.

In fact, Lacazette has admitted translating his form to the Premier League is still a work in progress due to one particular reason.

“I have not totally adapted yet, there are things that still surprise me, but I am trying,” he told SFR Sport, per Goal.

“I've watched quite a few matches to understand English football.

“I watch quite a lot of my matches with Arsenal and when I look back and see what I didn’t do right, I try to learn from it, which hopefully facilitates my progression.

“The refereeing decisions [still surprise me]. Sometimes I think it is a bit dangerous.

“But then I see that nobody is shocked, so I tell myself it must be normal.”

While Lacazette might have only seven league appearances worth of experience under his belt, he came to the wrong country if he wasn’t expecting to be knocked around a bit.

The physical nature of the Premier League can be challenging even for players blessed with a more powerful frame than the France international, making a strong mentality crucial to his success.

SUPPORT FROM THIERRY HENRY

In addition to possessing other strengths to help him cope with burly markers and lenient refereeing, Lacazette has the luxury of Henry – his personal hero – available for support.

"Henry was my idol, we talk a lot. He gives me advice, and if I have some questions I know I can count on him.”

Regardless of everything Lacazette has at his disposal, only goals will satisfy the doubters.
