Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville used to hate each other on a football pitch.

A Liverpool legend vs a Manchester United legend are never going to be best friends, are they?

But since hanging up their boots, the two former defenders appear to have formed a strong bond whilst working on Sky Sports.

It helps that they’re both really good at what they do - analysing Premier League matches in expert detail.

And instead of hating each other, they’re restricted to having digs at each other on social media with a bit of friendly banter.

If you follow either of them on Twitter, you’ll often see them engaging with each other - and not always positively.

And that has happened once again on Monday morning.

Carragher stumbled across an image of Neville alongside the fashionable David Beckham this weekend on a night out.

And Carra simply couldn’t resist having a little pop at his colleague.

Carragher tweets about Gary Neville

Carragher focused on Neville’s dress sense, writing: "WTF! The return of the Fonz! You're only from Bury!! @GQMagazine get a load of this killer!!!!”

Carragher 1-0 Neville.

We await Neville's reply but we're sure it's not too far away.

While Carragher might be winning the Twitter war right now, Neville certainly has the bragging rights when it comes to United v Liverpool.

Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League

The Red Devils currently have a six-point lead over the Merseysiders ahead of their visit to Anfield after the international break.

It will be well worth keeping an eye on their social media activity in the build-up to the massive match in less than two weeks time.
