Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard was honoured for his services to football at the Legends of Football event in London on Monday evening.Gerrard becomes the latest in a line of prestigious names to have been recognised at the charity event, which raises funds for Nordoff Robbins.Kenny Dalglish, Jose Mourinho, Pele and David Beckham have also won the Legend of Football award. The term ‘legend’ really does apply.In his 17 years at Liverpool, Gerrard made 710 appearances for the first team and lifted seven major trophies.He will forever be remembered as one of the club’s greatest ever players, his attitude, talent and loyalty helping to endear him to the Liverpool faithful.“I’ve lived the dream. My dream was to play for Liverpool and be the captain,” Gerrard said at the event.
“It’s based around me tonight, which I’m very humbled and appreciative of, but the charity are the main winners.
“The most important thing is the amazing charity, being here to support Nordoff Robbins – an excellent charity which uses music to bring people together.”
Alonso and Carragher were in attendance
Among the guests to watch Gerrard collect the award were former teammates Xabi Alonso, Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia and Gary McAllister.
It’s been many years now since Gerrard, Alonso and Carragher adorned the famous Anfield turf together.
The trio spent five seasons together, winning the Champions League and FA Cup along the way.
And if Carragher was looking forward to his reunion with Alonso, he probably wasn’t after the Spaniard hilariously owned him.
Xabi Alonso burned Jamie Carragher
A video has appeared of Carragher and Alonso in conversation together, with the former centre-back eager to find out if his former teammate believes he is a legend.
“Another legend, a Spanish legend, a passing legend,” Carragher says. “Am I a legend?”
Alonso begins to go off on a completely unrelated topic when Carragher intervenes.
“I said am I a legend?” he asks again.
Alonso begins to laugh before saying: “No, you’re just a pundit.”
Ouch.
It’s a shame the video doesn’t last longer because we’d love to see how Carragher reacted to that.

Poor Jamie. He should look at it this way: if he wasn’t such a good pundit for Sky Sports, maybe fans, and Alonso, would remember his football career a bit more.
