Plymouth head coach Paul Mariner is "thrilled to bits" to have secured the services of homegrown teenage striker Joe Mason for a further two seasons.

The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland youth international, Plymouth-born-and-bred, has signed a new extension to his initial one-year professional contract and will now stay at Home Park until the summer of 2012.

Mariner said: "I am absolutely delighted and thrilled to bits he has signed a new deal with us for another two years. He has a very bright future and I am glad it's going to be with us."

Mason is among Mariner's travelling squad for the FA Cup third-round replay at Newcastle.
