WWE caughts fans off guard by adding a stipulation to a key match at Hell in a Cell.

SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon announced on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live Denver, CO at the Pepsi Center on the USA Network that his Hell In a Cell match with Kevin Owens at the upcoming pay-per-view will have a Falls Count Anywhere stipulation added.

Bryan Alvarez noted on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that the reason WWE might have added the stipulation to the match is due to WWE possibly pre-recording Shane’s stunt backstage with a stunt-double.

That way they can avoid any potential injuries to the 47-year-old Commissioner of SmackDown Live. Here is what he had to say (transcript courtesy of Ringside News):

“So, what’s the point of announcing that it’s a Falls Count Anywhere match except that maybe they were going over various ideas and Shane decided, ‘you know what, I’m old and I have a family. I really don’t wanna hurt myself.’

And so they’re going to do a pre-tape with a stuntman of something really stupid happening backstage, and they can do the finish there and not risk anybody’s life.

It’s possible that WWE does this. WWE has already promised the fans that Shane will do some crazy stunt and this could get the Commissioner out of it if he indeed is against the idea. Time will how this match shakes out.

The Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event takes place on October 8th, 2017 in Detroit, Michigan at the Little Caesars Arena and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets. This will be an exclusive SmackDown Live brand event. Here is the updated card:
