The WWE is bringing back one of the most insane match formats in professional wrestling history.

Prior to the days of WWE being the sole powerhouse in professional wrestling, there lived World Championship Wrestling (WCW) who rivaled WWE for years in the Monday Night Wars. WCW even beat out WWE in the ratings wars for quite some time.

In the very early days of the industry WCW hosted an event entitled War Games. War Games was a very unique concept in which two rings were put out side by side in which teams of four or more men each competed in a random entry format.

Both of the rings were covered by a large cage and every five minutes a new member would enter from one of the teams randomly. It's very similar to that of the Elimination Chamber, however, this is in a team format.

It was announced by Triple H, the head of NXT, on Twitter that the War Games would be brought back at NXT TakeOver: Houston later this year in November (quotes via WWE.com):

"The WarGames name was made famous in sports-entertainment as one of the premier match types in the NWA and, later, WCW. Nicknamed "The Match Beyond," WarGames was a battle between teams that was fought in two rings enclosed by a steel cage.

"The first WarGames was held during the NWA’s 1987 Great American Bash tour.

"The NXT Universe already knows that at least one new champion will be crowned on Nov. 18, as Kairi Sane, the winner of the inaugural Mae Young Classic, will compete in a Fatal 4-Way Match for the vacant NXT Women’s Title.

"Though Sane’s opponents will be revealed in the weeks ahead, the battle to decide the new NXT Women’s Champion guarantees history will be made inside the Toyota Center."

WCW Legend and WWE Hall Of Famer Dusty Rhodes was in the first ever War Games match and his son, Cody Rhodes, recently took to Twitter to react to WWE bringing back the match.

Despite his criticism of WWE bringing back the old Starrcade pay-per-view (PPV) name, Rhodes was rather supportive of the War Games idea:

What are your thoughts on WWE bringing back War Games? What are your favorite memories from War Games during its days in WCW? Do you think WWE will handle bringing the show back with 'care and effort' as Rhodes stated? Have YOUR say in the comments section below, and the fourth episode of GiveMeSport’s WWE podcast is here!
