It is the debate in football which will never, ever be settled; who's better, Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi?

The duo are arguably the finest players to ever grace a football pitch and have been the dominant forces of their generation, collecting every Ballon d'Or award between them since 2008.

Kaka was the last man to break their duopoly and it still may be a few more years until another player does so again.

Neymar is the only real candidate in the world at the moment that could have a chance but in truth, Messi and Ronaldo are still at the peak of their powers.

Choosing between them is a chore. Both are ridiculous goal scorers, create a lot of chances for others and are usually the match winners for club and country.

With them, Barcelona and Real Madrid have sensational in the Champions League, with the latter winning three of the last four trophies.

Both players have their own following who will tell you why they are the superior star but in truth, it's virtually impossible to pick between them.

However, legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson has weighed in on the debate and has given a brilliantly unique explanation over why he'd choose Ronaldo.

The Scot was the man responsible for turning him into a world beater at Manchester United and believes he has something which Messi does not.

FERGIE'S CHOICE

"When the ball is at Messi's feet it is like he is wearing slippers," Ferguson said, per Independent.

"But there is a difference between Messi and Ronaldo and I'll tell you what it is. I think Messi is a Barcelona player but Ronaldo could be playing for Stockport County and he would score a hat-trick. He is brilliant in the air and he has two feet."

So, Fergie is basically saying that Ronaldo is the more adaptable player and to be fair, you kind of have to agree with his view.

One of the most fascinating things would be to see Messi taken out of the Barcelona team and given a shot in the Premier League.

Our guess is that the little magician would be just as prolific.
