Jim Ross on the best matches he has ever seen

Jim Ross is by far and large the most legendary broadcaster in the history of professional wrestling.

Ross has been ringside for the greatest moments the industry has ever seen and has called some of the best action in WWE history. He has seen matches between multiple pairs of the greatest of all time such as Flair-Steamboat, The Rock-Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley-The Undertaker, and so many more. Recently, however, a new pair has seemed to take over the professional wrestling industry as two of the biggest stars with the best chemistry - and they're not in the WWE.

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) stars Kenny Omega and Okada have put on some of the greatest matches the professional wrestling industry has seen in recent years, but Ross doesn't seem to think it ranks up to the calibre of Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat.

While Ross admits Omega vs. Omega's 60 minute match that resulted in a draw was a great match, he can't quite call it the greatest of all time just yet (quotes via Wrestling Inc.):

"I thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent. Was it the best I ever saw? I have a hard time thinking somebody would actually want to argue the Okada-Omega matches were better than [Ric] Flair-[Ricky] Steamboat from 1989.

"I think both of those trilogies were phenomenal. And there's nothing to complain about them, much less say one was better than the other. It depends on your taste, if you're a big fan or a casual fan.

"I've been real lucky to call some great ones. Foley-Undertaker Hell In The Cell is the most memorable. It wasn't the best match, but it gets talked about more. Those three Flair-Steamboat matches are hard to beat.

"The three Austin-Rock matches at WrestleManias were pretty incredible as well. I've just been so blessed in my journey.

"Fat kid from Oklahoma, buddy— Southern accent and Bell's palsy, becoming a broadcaster and hanging around a fickle business for 40 years.

"You wonder how in the hell that happened. It was somebody's plan."

What are your thoughts on Ross' comments regarding some of the best matches he has ever seen? Do you think he left some off of the list? And what are your feelings on his comparison between Kenny Omega and Okada's feud to Ric Flair and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat's? Have YOUR say in the comments section below, and the fourth episode of GiveMeSport’s WWE podcast is here!
