It seemed as though life after Neymar wouldn't be too kind to Barcelona, especially after their Spanish Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid.
However, the Catalan club have made the perfect start to the season, winning all seven of their La Liga games, scoring 23 and conceding just twice in the process, plus gaining six points from six in Europe.
Ernesto Valverde has certainly brought the feel-good factor back to the Camp Nou, after Luis Enrique's tough time last term, with Real Madrid winning La Liga and the Champions League.
However, it was a difficult summer for Barca, failing to land key target Philippe Coutinho in their battle to replace Neymar, while Ousmane Dembele has a long-term injury after tearing his hamstring.
And with Lionel Messi reportedly unhappy with the club's transfer activity, and rumours circling that he may be on his way to mega-rich Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City, Barca need to act fast to retain their star man.
As a result, it has been reported that Valverde's side are lining up Antoine Griezmann as next summer's feature signing.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Griezmann has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave for €100m after July 1, 2018.
The Frenchman signed the contract just a few months ago, staying loyal to Atletico after he was rumoured to be close to joining Manchester United.
Following the fees shelled out for Neymar and Dembele in the transfer window, €100m represents a figure a long way below Griezmann's market value, and would be a steal for Barcelona.
The forward and his club have made a slow start to the season though, as he has managed just two league goals, and Atletico winning only four of their first seven matches as they adjust to life at their new Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
Griezmann is currently on international duty with France, and they can book their spot in the 2018 World Cup in Russia with a home win over Belarus tomorrow night, although they did draw with the minnows in the away fixture.
