When sport stars ask their social media followers for advice, usually they can expect some sarcastic replies to their post.Canadian tennis starlet Eugenie Bouchard has become the latest athlete to receive such a response, after she asked fans for Halloween dress tips on Sunday. The 23-year-old, who faces Caroline Wozniacki is the last 32 of the Hong Kong Open tomorrow, posted on the social media platform in good faith, but like most of her peers in professional sport, replies of the general public can sometimes be in jest. Followers replied to her initial tweet by offering advice on what to go as when Halloween comes calling on October 31, while some found her post as the perfect excuse to take aim at her current ranking. One reply read: "A top five tennis player," alluding to her positioning on the Woman's Tour. Bouchard has struggled for form, consistency, and injuries throughout the course of the 2017 WTA season, and currently finds herself ranked 78.Bouchard crashed out of Wimbledon and the US Open early on, the final two Grand Slams of the year, so she will be hoping to improve on her form in Hong Kong.Speaking about her hopes for the Hong Kong Open, Bouchard hopes that similar conditions to that of her training base in Florida will help her thrive in the Far East. See her tweet and the savage replies below.

Ouch.

“It’s rare that I’m in a city I’ve never been in before and a tournament I’ve never been in before, you can’t compare yourself to anything in the past, whereas most tournaments you think about your past matches and memories at that event,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to playing some good tennis and sweating a lot. I spent a lot of time training in Florida where it’s pretty similar conditions so hopefully that will help me out.”

Following a tough 2017, Bouchard is aiming high for the New Year, and is targeting the top 10.

“I’m just continuing to work hard and I want to try to approach it mentally a little bit differently and be a bit more relaxed, not put so much pressure on myself about winning matches and not being so concerned about what people say,” she said.
