While WWE fans are currently wrapped up in a possible reunion for The Shield over on Monday Night RAW, another reunion could be close to taking place on SmackDown Live - Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
Owens has been in the professional wrestling industry since 2000 when he began working the independent circuit in Canada. He then signed on to do work for Professional Wrestling Syndicate in 2003 and continued working there for the next six years in addition to doing work for various other promotions such as Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), and Ring Of Honor (ROH).
It was during his time in ROH that Owens began feuding with his real-life best friend El Generico (Sami Zayn in WWE), and the pair later blossomed into a tag team. As they continued on in their professional wrestling career, both would eventually end up with WWE over in the NXT brand.
In NXT, Owens would betray Zayn for winning the NXT Championship, before going on to win the NXT Title himself. On the main roster Owens has had a ton more success than Zayn, who has yet to win a title in his WWE main roster career.
Owens on the other hand is a former WWE Universal, United States, and Intercontinental Champion. He has shared the ring with the likes of John Cena, Goldberg, and Chris Jericho. Recently, Zayn and Owens have been bitter rivals on WWE TV, however, "KO" is in the midst of a feud with SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon.
The pair competed in a Hell In A Cell match in the main event of last night's (Sun. October 8, 2017) pay-per-view (PPV) that Shane seemed to have in the bag at one point. Shane was at the top of the cell and prepared to drop an elbow down on Owens, who was laid down below on top of an announce table.
As Shane was on his way down, however, Zayn came out to remove Owens from the table and save him - seemingly turning heel and realigning himself with Owens in the process. There has been much speculation as to what this could mean for Owens and Zayn's friendship moving forward on WWE TV, but Owens dropped a bit of a hint on social media after the match.
He posted a picture of him and Zayn (as El Generico back in the day) embracing, perhaps signaling an alliance between the pair has reformed:
What are your thoughts on Owens posting an old picture of himself and Zayn on Instagram? Is this him accepting Zayn's olive branch? Or could he simply just be trying to steer fans in the wrong direction before assaulting Zayn on Tuesday's episode of SmackDown Live?
