FIFA 18 is barely out of its box and already EA Sports have been making changes.

The release of the latest edition of the game usually causes a stir, as it always contains a range of new features to justify fans spending the best part of £50 on it.

The first patch is now here, introduced supposedly to iron out any glitches and make gameplay a smoother process.

However, it hasn't necessarily been welcomed across the board, especially by pro-gamers.

As per the Independent, goalkeepers now have a better reaction time, while outfield players have had their shot accuracy reduced.

Put the two together, and it's suddenly a lot trickier to score goals.

The artificial intelligence defenders also seem to have improved, which means better players now have less of an advantage.

All this has been pointed out by professional FIFA player Benedikt Saltzer, who represents Wolfsburg.

Gamers aren't happy

Saltzer, also known by his player name 'SaLz0r' explained on Facebook:

"The goalkeeper has been massively improved.

"Suddenly, there are significantly fewer goals from positions where you have scored a goal before.

"Sure, it is definitely still possible to score some goals. However, in my opinion, far too many one-on-one situations are [now] negative for the attacker."

"Together, all of this means that the AI defends very much by itself, which greatly weakened the very challenging defensive behaviour that we had at the beginning of Fifa 18 and had to learn first.

The patch isn't popular

"If EA announces year by year that they want to promote eSports and be a main title then I do not really understand this patch at all, because it is by no means progress but, in my opinion, a clear step back."

It seems that opinion is a popular one, as plenty of others took to Twitter to vent their frustration at the patch. Some have even been asking EA Sports to remove it.

As if Cristiano Ronaldo pipping Lionel Messi in the rankings wasn't enough to get people going.

In the real world, defending seems to be getting steadily worse with every passing season, so there's nothing like a bit of escapism through FIFA.
